Verve Energy (Verve) is a leading electricity producer. The company produces electricity through diverse resources such as coal, gas and liquid (oil or distillate), wind, bio-energy and solar. The company owns and operates four major power stations in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS), namely, Kwinana, Cockburn, Pinjar and Muja. In addition, it also owns a fifth power station located at Collie, which is operated by a third party. Its power stations has more than 3,240 MW of electricity production capacity. Furthermore, the company also manages other small power stations located at Mungarra, West Kalgoorlie, Geraldton and Kwinana. It also operates a joint venture power station situated at Worsley. Verve’s generation portfolio also includes renewable energy sources.

The company recorded revenues of A$ 1,023.6 million during the fiscal year ended June 2008, a decrease of 3.4% over 2007. The operating loss of the company was A$ 111 million during the fiscal year 2008, as compared to an operating profit of A$ 4.3 million during 2007. The net loss of the company was A$ 132 million during the fiscal year 2008, as compared to a net loss of A$ 52.3 million during 2007.
