CTBR Staff Writer Published 21 February 2013

Smile FC, a joint venture between Intelligent Energy and Suzuki Motor, has established a fuel cell systems, ready-to-scale production plant in Yokohama, Japan.

The facility shows the transfer of proven semi-automated production technology that is developed and utilised by Intelligent Energy.

This shows the next phase in the high volume production of fuel cell systems, reducing manufacturing and assembly costs and will also represent the improved cycle times and enhanced product quality.

Smile FC president Osamu Honda said that the establishment of the production plant will enable the company to meet its aim of producing efficient and cost-effective fuel cell systems for integration into clean energy vehicles.

Intelligent Energy chief executive Henri Winand said, "Fuel cell systems provide one of the best solutions to reducing carbon emissions from vehicles.

"The Yokohama production line is testament to the rigorous, results-oriented collaboration between Intelligent Energy and Suzuki Motor Corporation," added Winand.
